REDWOODS
NOW, FOR ALL,
FOREVER

We did it! The community joined Sempervirens Fund for an opportunity to permanently protect more than 1,000 acres of redwood forests and care for 11,000 acres of redwoods for future generations. The habitats, waterways, and resiliency of the Santa Cruz mountain region are at risk without healthy, connected coast redwoods. Few remain and for the last few months we asked for help to preserve forests to ensure they will never be developed, degraded, or destroyed.

The goal for REDWOODS NOW, FOR ALL, FOREVER was to raise $14 million by September 15, 2022 to protect redwoods at YMCA’s Camp Jones Gulch, protect the Gateway to Big Basin, and ensure land management and stewardship to these and the 11,000 acres of land currently under Sempervirens Fund’s care.

Thanks to a generous donor, gifts up to $250,000 have been matched since July. And we are thrilled to share with you that more than 1,300 of our community donated to secure this match and ultimately help us raise more than $15.3 million, far exceeding our goal.

Time and time again, our passionate and dedicated community comes through to respond to critical opportunities to protect coast redwood forests. We are forever grateful to our community, and generations of forests and people to come will benefit from your support.

PROTECTED

Your support will help permanently protect 920-acres of coast redwood and conifer forest from future development or timber harvest. Securing a conservation easement for YMCA Camp Jones Gulch near La Honda will safeguard the largest swath of intact habitat in the Santa Cruz Mountains, connecting to Pescadero Creek and Sam McDonald County Parks. And with your support we have already successfully protected the Gateway to Big Basin a critical forest property on the edge of Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

FOR ALL

You joined us to ensure that future generations have access to thriving redwood forests. The camp’s 39 acres of old-growth forest—the Valley of the Giants—is at the heart of The Y of San Francisco’s vision for outdoor education camps for thousands of young people and families. This once-in-a-generation opportunity preserved key ecosystems and provides an indispensable nature experience for generations to come.

FOREVER

Development and timber harvesting are the biggest threats to our redwoods, including those at Camp Jones Gulch. These iconic and resilient climate champions are protected, ensuring our region’s dynamic natural diversity can thrive for generations—and millennia—to come. Learn More
