Performances, speeches and important announcements were made at our Santa Cruz Redwoods National Monument Campaign* Kick-off Event on Feb. 12, 2015 at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz.
*now named Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument Campaign
Former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt gives the keynote address:
Highlights include:
- Over 1,500 people attended the event
- Valentin Lopez, Chairman of the Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, offered the opening prayer
- 100 local elementary school children sang “This Land is Your Land”
- Congresswoman Anna Eshoo announced via video her introduction of legislation in the House of Representatives to designate this national monument.
- California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird announces Governor Jerry Brown’s endorsement of the monument designation.
- Former Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt keynoted the event.
- Q&A panel discussion featuring Monterey County Supervisor Jane Parker, the Bureau of Land Management’s Rick Cooper, Citizens Campaign Committee chair Dan Haifley and CEO of Visit Mendocino Scott Schneider
- Former Santa Cruz Mayor Hilary Bryant and Sempervirens Fund Board President and former Santa Cruz County Treasurer Fred Keeley emceed the event
